citifield

I had mixed feelings of sadness and disgust as I drove by the last remaining piece of the Mets Shea Stadium.

Somehow I see what’s wrong with our economy in this image. In the name of development and progression, we are just replacing stadiums, financing the new ones with taxpayer’s money.

I’m not sure what I will feel when I walk inside Citi field for the first time. I may forget for a moment what being in Shea felt like.

But brand, new, shiny structures will require a long time to build the personna of this, now defunct, stadium. From the Beatles to the more personal memories of seeing Edgardo Alfonzo and Mike Piazza play, I think Mets fans will feel lost for at least a couple of years, if not more.

We’ll miss you, Shea.
